Growing up in Colorado, I always looked forward to outdoor trips with my parents. I’m an only child, so I guess you could say that much of my parents’ attention was focused on me. And I didn’t mind it at all because they always encouraged me to follow my dreams and passion. By the way, this is Anouk Govil and I hope this page can give you a glimpse of who and what I’m all about.
If there’s one particular thing that I wish for you to know about me, it’s this: I am a free spirit who has always loved the water. You could say that my parents were a large influence on how I developed my individuality. Mom and dad always reminded me the importance of following my own voice regardless of whether or not I will fit into social norms.
As for my love of the water—the outdoors in general, actually—that’s what happens when you grow up in one of most beautiful states in the country, surrounded by amazing backdrops of mountains and bodies of water. I have yet to meet a Colorado native who doesn’t love the outdoors, and who’s not skilled in at least one outdoor sport.
My parents and I often went camping. There are many beautiful camping spots in Colorado, so if you haven’t tried any yet, I highly recommend that you do it sometime in the future. I guarantee that you will keep coming back for more!
My first paddling experience was in a canoe with my father back when I was about 4 or 5 years old. He would let me sit with him and hold the oars while he paddled. He also let me practice in the pool. With the small oars that he made especially for me, I would paddle away in an inflatable kiddie boat.
I was eight years old when he finally let me go on my first kayak ride. It was a double kayak only so mom had to stay behind and settle for watching us from the sidelines instead. That first ride was exhilarating! By the time I was 14, I was already paddling my own single kayak.
I’ve joined amateur competitions and whenever I have the time, I teach kayaking to kids at my local community.
Right now, I operate a small shop that sells outdoor sports gear and equipment. If you ever find yourself in Colorado and you wish to buy or rent kayaking equipment, do look me up! I will be more than happy to show you our selection.
