Welcome to my News page! My name is Anouk Govil, and I will be your unofficial kayaking news resource online. If this is your first time on my website, let me give you a brief background about this site. I published this website to allow me to connect with other kayaking enthusiasts around the world. I’ve been kayaking since I was about 8 and before that, I was already learning how to steer on the lake in a canoe. It was my parents got me interested in water sports; and my first “official” ride was in a canoe when I was about 4 or 5 years old.
Apart from this page, I have also included an About page where you can read a little bit about how my love for kayaking began. On the other hand, if you wish to read my thoughts about things other than kayaking, then I encourage you to visit Anouk Govil Blog page.
Now, for this page, I will share with you the latest news and updates on all things kayaking, not only in the United States but also in other parts of the world. I will especially monitor kayaking competitions so I can give you the latest updates.
To start the ball rolling, below is a snippet on Adam van Koerden’s road to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Adam von Koerden: Paddling to the 2016 Summer Olympics
If you’re a kayaking enthusiast like me, you’ve probably heard of Adam von Koerden; Canada’s favorite and multi-awarded sprint kayaker. Competing at the qualifiers this year to earn a spot in the 2016 Summer Olympics, Adam once again proved that he is one kayaker to contend with.
If Adam makes it through the final qualifiers at the ICF canoe Sprint World Cup in Portugal, you can expect to see him at the Summer Olympics in Rio this year.
This isn’t the first time that Adam will be competing against other world champions at the Olympics. In 2004, he bagged a gold medal for the K-1 500m and a bronze for the K-1 1000m competitions during the Athens Summer Olympics.
He also took home a silver medal for the K-1 500m competition during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and again, a silver medal for the K-1 1000m competition during the 2012 London Olympics.
Adam von Koerden was also given the privilege to be the flag bearer for the Canadian Olympic team for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
I will be posting more updates as they become available so please check back again soon!
